PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The Pace mens basketball team cruised to victory Tuesday while the women fell short against Southern Connecticut State University.
In the mens game, the Owls scored only eight times in the second half as the Setters rolled to an 83-62 victory and moved to sixth place in the Northeast-10 Conference. Pace is now 12-10 overall and 10-8 in conference play.
Pace scored four points in the final 30 seconds of the first half to take a 42-39 halftime lead. The Setters went on a 14-2 run in the second half and never looked back.
Keon Williams and Justin Alston co-led the Setters with 22 points apiece.
The womens team, though, could not overcome the Owls and failed to leap them in the standings to take over second place in the conference. The Owls beat the Setters, 70-57.
Pace fell to 16-6 overall and 13-5 in conference.
The Setters pulled to within five at 62-57 with less than four minutes left, but the Owls made 6-of-7 free throws in the final three minutes and Pace never scored again.
Brittany Shields led Pace with 20 points and nine rebounds.
