Pace Hoops Team Volunteers With Special Olympics

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Pace University men’s basketball team volunteered with the Hudson Valley Special Olympics last Saturday for the annual Fall Games at Sprout Brook Park in Cortlandt Manor.

The team helped organize and lead the skills portion of the softball program, including hitting, base running, fielding and long throw competitions. The Setters also awarded the Special Olympians with medals during the closing ceremonies.

"Getting our players out in the community is part of the educational experience we're trying to provide our student-athletes," said Pace coach Jim Harter. "I thought our kids did a great job of embracing the experience of giving to others in the time we spent with Special Olympics. We plan on doing more volunteering throughout the school year."

The Setters start their preseason Oct. 15, play a Nov. 1 exhibition game against Syracuse University and then open their regular season Nov. 9 in the Nyack College Tournament.
