PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – A Yorktown High School graduate, former college athlete and Major League Baseball agent is to speak Wednesday to coaches, students and parents interested in the best selection and “recruitment” practices for teens hoping to continue athletic competition at the college level.

Mark Leinweaver of Perfect Playcement, is scheduled to give his presentation at Pleasantville High School at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, according to a statement from the school district.

Leinweaver, who was a non-scholarship Division II athlete at Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., and has spent 20 years working in college and professional sports, speaks regularly about the college selection process, urging parents and students to start with a “simple, realistic and logical plan” to play at the next level, according to the statement.

The former Yorktown Corn Husker offers several tips for students, urging each to find a college or university that:

  • Has the "right" student body size
  • Is a comfortable distance from home
  • Has the desired field or fields of study
  • Offers extracurricular opportunities
  • Offers the proper athletic level of competition

Once those factors have been identified, the students must reach out to colleges directly to communicate with the coaching staff, according to the district’s statement, which notes that it is not the job of high school coaches to do so.

According to the statement, Leinweaver also believes that 95-99 percent of student athletes are a better fit for Division II, Division III or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics colleges as opposed to Division I schools.

Pleasantville High School is located at 60 Romer Ave., Pleasantville.
