Bharara said it was a special privilege to deliver a speech at Pace Law School. The Southern District of New York has a long standing relationship with Pace Law School and many of its students have worked with Bharara. During his speech, he gave a special shout-out to the graduates who have worked with him in the past.
Bharara addressed the graduates about the values of a law degree and the importance of law itself.
"The potential power of a law degree is, I believe, unmatched in American society," Bharara said. "I trust that you have come to understand that the power of law is an embodiment of values as a source of American greatness."
Bharara also discussed his opinion on the qualities of a good lawyer including "respect for democratic institutions, but also a yearning for their improvement, a pension for passion and advocacy but also an appreciation for moderation, skill in being an adversary without being an enemy, the wisdom to learn and understand both sides of an issue, and the ability to view all parties always as human beings with dignity and self-worth."
