Kofman was the recipient of a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and for 10 weeks, he took courses on human rights, contemporary politics and economics in South Asia, as well as yoga at Christ University in Bangalore, India. Beyond the classroom, Kofman spent time working with the university's Center for Student action in understanding the complex social and political issues in the growing nation.
The focus of Kofman's research was on youth participation in politics, interviewing everyone from students to the common workers of Bangalore. In his own words, he wished to "explore the injustices of the caste system, religious strife, gender discrimination, cultural disconnect between young and old, political and civic engagement, pervasive corruption, and the blunt wealth inequality" plaguing India.
The majority of Kofman's research on India's young and poor will be addressed in his senior thesis. under the guidance of Delores Alfieri, the university's assistant program coordinator.
