PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Three candidates are running for two openings on the Pleasantville Union Free School District Board of Education in Tuesday's election.
Among them is Tara Klein, a special education advocate for children and co-founder of the Pleasantville Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA).
Klein said she decided to run as a way of giving back to the district that her four sons attended. Her two eldest sons graduated from the district and are in college, and her twin sons are juniors at Pleasantville High School.
"I have four children who have all had really different, but very positive educational experiences in the district, and both the district and the community has been always very generous and supportive of our family," said Klein, who was especially touched by the community support when one of her sons was sick.
Klein has lived in Pleasantville for 22 years with her husband Russ, who is the chair of the Pleasantville Planning Commission.
Along with establishing education events with the Jacob Burns Film Center, she has also helped create the Pleasantville High School internship program. She is also a member of the Mount Pleasant Library Strategic Planning Committee.
