Ruth Bell, 98, Lifelong Pleasantville Resident

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Ruth Hammond Bell, a lifelong Pleasantville resident, died Sept. 15. She was 98. 

Bell was born Sept. 14, 1914, in Pleasantville to Frank and Inez Hammond Bell. She graduated from Pleasantville High School 1933 and worked as a clerical worker for Reader's Digest for 42 years, until retiring in 1979. 

She was a lifelong member of Pleasantville United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the church choir. She served as past Warden Master of Order of the Eastern Star Pleasantside Chapter 241 and was a member of the Rosary Hill Sewing Group and Pleasantville Outreach Program. A brother, Francis Bell, predeceased her. 

Funeral services will be at noon Friday at Pleasantville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Banks Cemetery in Pleasantville. Beecher Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
