PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The Pleasantville Union Free School District has made an agreement with the village of Pleasantville to utilize the villages fuel pump services in order to save costs for the district.
This is just a great example of utilizing shared services in order to save money, Mayor Peter Scherer said at the Village Board of Trustees meeting earlier this week. Were happy to take advantage of the village infrastructure in a way that benefits the school district and the tax payers in general.
The agreement will allow the school district to utilize the villages fuel storage and pumping facilities at the Department of Public Works. The district will now be able to fill its designated vehicles and maintenance equipment with diesel and unleaded fuels at a pre-negotiated state contract pricing.
The agreement is made in an inter-municipal contract pursuant to Article 5 of the General Municipal Law of the State of New York. Although the school district was unable to comment on exactly how much money will be saved by the agreement going forward, members of the district were pleased with the cost savings.
Its not the biggest thing in the world but it will save money and its another example of sharing services and finding ways to save, said Board of Education member Shane McGaffey.
Village Administrator Patricia Dwyer said that the village was previously in this agreement with the school district but that at some unknown point it had ended. She said that Pleasantville and their Department of Public Works are more than able to accommodate the school district at their fueling station.
We have in place a system that allows us to track whos at the pump and to track their usage by either mileage or by access codes, Dwyer said. Were fully capable of handling this and certainly are looking forward to doing this for the school.
Dwyer said the village in a similar agreement with the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department, allowing them to fuel their vehicles and rigs at the station.
