At approximately 10:42 p.m. Feb. 2, members of the Yonkers Police Department responded to an apartment at 40 Caryl Ave. on a report of a male with a stab wound.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the victim, a 41-year-old resident of Yonkers with a life-threatening puncture wound to his neck, Yonkers Police said.

Officers immediately rendered aid and the victim was brought to a local area hospital where he died from his injury.

Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene, interviewing subjects and witnesses, canvassing for potential surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence.

An investigation has yielded that the victim, identified as Khalif Kennedy, was engaged in a domestic dispute with the mother of his child, according to police.

Investigators developed information that the dispute then escalated to violence and it is alleged that the mother brandished a kitchen knife and stabbed Kennedy in the neck, causing a severe injury which resulted in his death, police said. The initial 911 call originated from the occupants of the apartment.

The suspect remained at the scene and was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of first-degree manslaughter, a Class B violent felony in the New York State Penal Law.

She is identified as Chanelle Ronae Franklin, a 33-year-old resident of Yonkers.

She is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, Feb. 4.

The case is being prosecuted by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. The City of Yonkers and Yonkers Police Department offers its sincere condolences to the family of the victim.
