About 350 people will commemorate National Cancer Survivorship Day at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown on Thursday night from 6 to 9 p.m.
The Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Sleepy Hollow is sponsoring the event, which aims to connect cancer survivors and to provide recognition to medical staff, family and friends who have supported cancer patients.
Several groups will perform at the event, including two cancer survivors. James Durst, a 65-year-old White Plains resident, will be singing. Durst underwent treatment for tongue cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Sleepy Hollow.
Ted Sabety, a 52-year-old Pleasantville resident, will also perform with his band. The Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Sleepy Hollow treated Sabety for head and neck cancer. The Hope for Change Foundation, based in Somers, will also perform. The Foundation puts on theatrical performances and other activities to promote awareness and raise money for breast cancer research.
