A former police officer has been sentenced after pleading guilty to attempting to engage in an elaborate cover-up after he hospitalized two people in a hit-and-run crash in Westchester before driving away. Valhalla resident Raymond Beckley, a former police officer in New Castle and New Rochelle, has been sentenced to five years of "shock" probation, starting with 90 days in Westchester County Jail for tampering with evidence. Possible Homicide Under Investigation After Body Found Near Busy Westchester Intersection
An investigation is underway into a possible homicide after the body of a man was found behind a building near a busy intersection in Westchester on Friday evening. The building houses a deli at 48 Russell St. at the intersection of Aqueduct Road. The unidentified man was in his 40s, Greenburgh Police said. Detectives from both the White Plains and Greenburgh police departments responded to the scene after the body was discovered at around 6 p.m. Police say the investigation is in its early stages and more information will be released. Registered 'Sexually Violent' Offender Reports Move In Mount Vernon
A registered "sexually violent" and "predicate" sex offender convicted of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl has reported an address change in Westchester County. The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 52-year-old Manuel Arroyo, who has moved to a residence on South Fulton Street in Mount Vernon. An alleged elaborate cover-up wasn’t enough to help a former police officer in Westchester stay out of trouble with the law after he allegedly hospitalized two in a hit-and-run crash and sped away. A 72-year-old man is attempting to sue the city of White Plains and police department, claiming that officers used excessive force during an attempted arrest last year. Citing insufficient evidence, prosecutors have closed the civil rights probe into the fatal shooting of a mentally ill African-American man who was shot and killed by a White Plains police officer several years ago.
