A New York resident has died days after contracting the state’s first human case of a rare but serious mosquito-borne virus in nearly a decade. The Ulster County resident died from complications stemming from eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office confirmed on Monday, Sept. 23. First Polio Case In US In Nearly A Decade Reported In Hudson Valley
State health officials have confirmed a case of polio in New York, the first time the disease has been seen in the United States in nearly a decade. The case was confirmed in Rockland County, the New York State Department of Health announced Thursday, July 21. With the number of new COVID-19 infections continuing to surge, and the number of unvaccinated patients being treated for the virus occupying hospital beds, some parts of New York are being forced to cancel or postpone certain elective procedures. As the Omicron variant of the virus spreads, New York Gov. Coronavirus Update: New York Looking To Test Up To 1,000 Per Day Statewide
The New York State Department of Health is partnering with hospitals in an effort to conduct upwards of 1,000 tests for coronavirus per day across the state. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the Wadsworth Center is teaming with local hospitals to expand surge testing capacity to 1,000 tests per day statewide for the novel coronavirus.
