A New York man who fired a shotgun outside an Albany synagogue on the first night of Hanukkah pleaded guilty to federal civil rights and firearm charges. Mufid Fawaz Alkhader, 29, of Schenectady, pleaded guilty to obstructing religious freedom by threat of force, unlawfully acquiring a firearm, and brandishing it during the crime in Albany federal court on Tuesday, Feb. 4. Authorities In Hudson Valley Monitoring Bomb Threats Targeting NY Synagogues
Authorities in the Hudson Valley are monitoring bomb threats sent over email targeting synagogues across New York as Rosh Hashanah comes to a close. The threats were detailed in an announcement by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office on Friday, Oct. 4, in which authorities said they were made aware of a "pattern of bomb threats" sent via email targeting New York synagogues and containing "vitriolic language." Arrest Made After Swastikas Found Inside Synagogue In Hudson Valley
A Hudson Valley man has been arrested for allegedly scrawling swastikas and hate speech inside an area synagogue. Rockland County resident Rolando DeJesus Gomez-Velazquez, age 32, of Hillcrest, was arrested following an investigation into the incident which took place on Friday, June 17. In addition to the drawings and hate speech, Gomez-Velazquez allegedly also damaged several items inside the synagogue, said Det. Lt. Christopher Franklin, of the Ramapo Police.
