K9 Officer Unexpectedly Dies In Hudson Valley: 'Made Considerable Impact' A beloved K9 officer who had a successful career with a police department in the Hudson Valley has died unexpectedly at a young age.  K9 Maverick, who served with the Kent Police Department in Putnam County since 2017, died on Sunday, March 19 at the age of 7 after an unexpected medical emergency, Kent Police announced. 'Person In Crisis' Hospitalized After Hours-Long Standoff In Area, Police Say A person described as being "in crisis" was hospitalized following an hours-long standoff with responders at a residence in the area. Hours-Long Standoff Ends In Suicide In Area A tense hours-long standoff ended when an area resident with a rifle killed himself. Putnam County Sheriff Robert Langley, Jr. said the incident unfolded around 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 23,  when the town of Kent Ambulance along with the EmStar medics were dispatched to Pudding Street in the Town of Putnam Valley for a man with chest pain.
