The latest Powerball draw on Monday, Jan. 10 had a $27 million jackpot, but a second prize ticket was sold to a customer in New Rochelle who reportedly purchased it at the 7 Days Gas and Food Mart on Pelham Road. Residents Rescued After Apartment Fire Breaks Out In New Rochelle
Three police officers suffered injuries as they helped rescue residents when a fire broke out in a Westchester apartment building. New Rochelle Police Officer Timothy Childs was on patrol shortly after 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20 on Pelham Road when he saw smoke coming from a six-unit Franklin Avenue apartment building, prompting him to leap into action. A bicyclist was hospitalized after being struck by an allegedly drunk driver in Westchester. Car Slams Into Pole, Shutting Down Busy New Rochelle Intersection
A busy New Rochelle intersection is temporarily shut down to traffic after a motorist drove into a utility pole, breaking it in half. A car struck a pole shortly before 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the intersection of Pelham Road and North Avenue in New Rochelle, according to multiple reports, leaving the roadway completely closed until Con Edison crews could respond to the scene to remove it.
