After much effort, girls wrestling at the high school level is becoming more popular in New York State. In a report from D1 Women's Wrestling for Thanksgiving 2022, the sport has been given an "emerging sport" status in New York State, along with four other states. For the second time in four months, students in a Hudson Valley school are in hot water for making alleged racist remarks toward student-athletes at an athletic event. High school student-athletes in New York who make a name for themselves can now profit off it. At its quarterly Executive Committee meeting, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) announced that it has revised its rule regarding amateur athletes statewide, and that student-athletes can now profit off their name, image, or likeness. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association is hitting the brakes on a potential start for high-risk winter sports due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
