What began as a romantic getaway ended in tragedy when a New York man presumably drowned in a kayaking accident mere yards from his fiancée just days after they got engaged. The incident unfolded Friday, June 9, in Washington State’s Olympic National Park, in Lake Crescent, according to the National Park Service. The lake is approximately 100 miles northwest of Seattle. Updated story: Body Found Now Believed To Be Missing NY Woman Gabby Petito, Authorities Say Police investigating the disappearances of 22-year-old New York native Gabby Petito and her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie, who also grew up on Long Island, have obtained some cell phone tracking data for them, according to a brand-new report. Hudson Valley Man Gets Banned From Yellowstone National Park
A Hudson Valley resident was one of two men who will spend time behind bars after being banned from Yellowstone National Park for trespassing in a forbidden area. Ulster County resident Ryan Goetz, 25, of Woodstock, and Colorado resident Eric Schefflin, 20, pleaded guilty to trespassing on the cone of Old Faithful Geyser at the National Park, and were sentenced to 10 days in jail and have been banned from the park for five years. Lifelong Area Resident Loses Battle With Early Onset Alzheimer's
Deborah L. Miller, a lifelong area resident, lost her battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease on March 16 at home with her family by her side. She was 64. Born in Poughkeepsie on Nov. 18, 1953, she was the daughter of John and Christina Merte Whiten. Her father predeceased her and her mother survives. She worked for the National Park Service for 30 years as a museum aide and was also a member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church.
