A man who took police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car before ramming into a police cruiser in Westchester has been sentenced to time in prison. George Smith, 29, of Mount Vernon, has been sentenced after pleading guilty in May to two counts of second-degree assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property dating back to an incident on Sunday, Nov. 18 last year. A man faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and getting involved in a high-speed chase that ended with his car crashing into a police cruiser in Westchester. George Smith of Mount Vernon struck the cruiser after evading officers from Mount Vernon all the way to the Bronx on Sunday, Nov. 18. Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. A Westchester County Police officer was injured when a man rear-ended her patrol car while attempting to evade arrest in a stolen gypsy cab. The Westchester County Police Real Time Crime Center alerted the Mount Vernon Police Department of a stolen vehicle in the city shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18, County Police spokesman Kieran O’Leary said.
