Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued With 65 MPH Wind Gusts, 1-Inch Hail, Lightning A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is now in effect as a potent system nears the region that will bring drenching rain, damaging wind gusts, hail, and frequent lightning. The watch went into effect Saturday, July 2 at 2:35 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. The main threat is damaging winds to 65 mph and hail to ping pong size, the National Weather Service said in a new update issued Saturday afternoon. New Round Of Severe Storms Sweeping Through Region For the third straight day, a line of severe thunderstorms is moving through the region from west to east. Scattered storm activity is expected Thursday afternoon, July 8, and into the evening. At 12:45 p.m., storms with heavy rain have arrived in New York, north of I-84 in Orange, Ulster, and Dutchess counties. Storm activity could become more widespread later. Tornado Watch Now In Effect For Most Of Region A Tornado Watch has just been issued for nearly the entire region. It's in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, the National Weather Service said. It was issued just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. It covers Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Orange counties in the Hudson Valley, Suffolk County on Long Island and Fairfield County in Connecticut. The watch comes as a new round of severe storms is expected to sweep through the area. Storm Watch: Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued For Much Of Area A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for much of the area as isolated to scattered storms sweep through the region. The primary threat for storms Wednesday night, June 3 is damaging wind gusts, the National Weather Service said. Heavy downpours are likely with the storms. Small hail and isolated tornadoes are possible. The storm chance will last through midnight.  Skies will clear Thursday, June 4, but there's a new chance for showers and storms in the evening on a mostly sunny day with the high temperature in the mid 80s.
