Former Westchester HS/College Sports Standout Dies At 47
A former high school and collegiate sports standout in the area has died. Longtime Putnam County resident Dennis Leonard, a 1992 graduate of Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, was 47 years old. He excelled on both the varsity football and lacrosse teams before attending Salisbury University in Maryland, where he was a member of back-to-back undefeated NCAA champion lacrosse teams. New York continues its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and soon will be permitting fans back into the stands at large- and small-scale college sporting events. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday, March 30 that beginning on Friday, April 2, college sports can begin bringing fans back under strict COVID-19 guidelines set up by the state. Intercollegiate sports at large-scale venues that hold more than 1,500 attendees indoors or 2,500 attendees outdoors can host up to 10 percent indoor or 20 percent outdoor capacity as of Friday. UConn Expected To Rejoin Big East Conference
UConn’s men’s basketball program hasn’t been the same since it left the Big East Conference seven years ago. Now it appears the Huskies will leave the American Athletic Conference and be back in the Big East for all sports except football, according to multiple reports.
