Five models of projector flashlights are being recalled because the manufacturer has received reports of children accessing the button cell batteries and in one case swallowing them. The child who swallowed the battery manufactured by Halo, the company issuing the recall, required surgery to remove it, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. An area child who was out celebrating Halloween was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 31, when the 4-year-old child was crossing a busy roadway near the Plaza Diner in the Town of Greenport with his mother. A fast-acting police officer came to the rescue of a father who accidentally locked a pair of children inside an SUV in Northern Westchester.
