Long Island resident Joseph Malvasio, age 65, of Bridgehampton and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is named in an indictment unsealed by the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District on Thursday, Aug. 10.
According to prosecutors, Malvasio conspired with 57-year-old Gregg Marcus, of Bay Harbor Islands, Florida, to run an advance-fee scheme through their business, Global Capital Partners Fund LLC.

New details have been released after a longtime police officer and Hudson Valley resident was killed in a multi-vehicle Westchester crash.
Yonkers Police Department Sgt. Frank Gualdino, a resident of Putnam County who lived in Mahopac, age 53, was due to retire in nine months. He leaves behind a wife and two children, ages 14 and 20.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Whalen & Ball Funeral Home, in Yonkers. A funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 11 a.m. to noon at Sacred Heart Church on Shonnard Place in Yonkers.

Two people, one a minor, have been charged with stealing a car and other items in Northern Westchester, police say.
On Monday, Nov. 7, police responded to a report that two suspects were trespassing on private property and attempting to break into locked vehicles in Croton-on-Hudson, according to Croton-on-Hudson Police.
Police soon located the two suspects and found them to be in possession of stolen property, including two credit cards, police said.

Four men are facing weapons charges after State Police allegedly busted a speeding driver on a Westchester County highway.
Troopers first spotted the suspect’s vehicle at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, as it drove through Yonkers on the Sprain Brook Parkway.
The BMW 440 was traveling in excess of 100 mph, according to police.

Businessman From Westchester Who Made Mark In Real Estate, Autos, Insurance Dies
A Connecticut resident who grew up in Westchester County and worked in insurance, automobiles, and real estate over the course of his career has died at the age of 78.
Fairfield County resident Kurt Hothorn Jr., of Greenwich, died at Greenwich Hospital on Friday, Sept. 23, according to his obituary.
He was born in New York City and raised in Scarsdale, his obituary said.
Hothorn graduated from Concordia Prep, and he went on to study at Valparaiso University in Indiana.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, his obituary said.
