Pelham Student Trains for Football Season in Heat

PELHAM, N.Y. – Andrew Fabiano exercised in 87 degree heat Wednesday afternoon on the grass on the corner of Wolfs Lane and First Street. The Pelham resident is training to increase his playing time on the varsity football team at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Ct.

The soon-to-be high school senior executed drills, sprinted and conditioned in the heat under the training of Integrity Fitness owner Robert Corbellini.

"When you do it, each time it gets a little easier and you can do a little more," Fabiano said.

Fabiano's mother met Corbellini when he first opened the gym and she exercised there. She linked her son with Corbellini and the two have been training to help Fabiano reach his goal.

Fabiano plays center for the private boarding school but is trying to make the transition to guard. He has trimmed his weight from 280 pounds to 238 pounds since spring break of this year. He has undergone stamina training and done squats and dead lifts.

The Pelham resident said he has begun to look at Stanford University for academic reasons, but he would try to play football there if he attends the college.

Fabiano said discipline and technique have been focal points of his football play. He said when is on the field, the adrenaline puts him in a mindset that enables him to focus.

"When you have people watching you and supporting you...you have to bring that feeling out and make it worth it," Fabiano said.
