PELHAM, N.Y. The Pelham High School football team will try to earn its first win of the season when it hosts Ossining on Friday at 7 p.m. at Glover Field.
Pelham has struggled on both sides of the ball this season but its opponents have had plenty to do with that. The Pelicans opened the season against perhaps the two best teams in Class A with a 33-0 loss to Poughkeepsie and a 40-0 loss to Somers.
In fact, Pelham has scored just six points in three games this season, all of which came in a 14-6 loss to Mount Vernon in week three.
The Pelicans have had a thin roster all season and will be hard pressed to stop Ossining quarterback Justin Davidov and the Prides offense, which seems to have gotten on track. Ossining scored 34 points in an overtime loss to Yorktown in week two after scoring just 14 points in a week one loss to Nyack.
The Pride lost its first two games of the season but rebounded with a resounding 37-8 drubbing at Gorton in week three. And, as usual, Davidov led the way.
Davidov finished 9-for-12 passing for 181 yards and three touchdowns against Gorton. He also ran the ball nine times for 22 yards and two touchdowns.
The junior has been a major bright spot during the Prides rough start to the season. Davidov has thrown for seven touchdowns and also leads the team in carries with 33 and rushing scores with three.
Ossining gets a break in its schedule with winless Pelham before it faces Somers and Poughkeepsie in back-to-back weeks. The Pride closes its season against Sleepy Hollow.
Led by Davidov, the Pride will likely be too much for Pelham to handle on Friday.
