Max Pine of Pelham Memorial and Charles Gulian of Ossining were named finalists for the competition. Six other New York students also made it to the finals.
The 40 finalists will visit Washington, D.C., from March 5-11. There, they will present their research to judges and the public. The teens will see the White House and other national landmarks. The climax of the week will be a black-tie awards gala at the National Building Museum.
Gulian’s project was titled “A Search for Tidally-Distorted White Dwarf Binaries in the Kepler Survey.”
Pine’s project was “Effect of Climate on the Spatial Distribution and Synchrony of Eight Irruptive Bird Species.”

Gulian and Pine will compete with the other finalists for one of the three top prizes of $150,000. The finalists will share in awards totaling more than $1 million.
