A 21-year-old Fairfield County man wanted in West Virginia for a marijuana possession charge was arrested in Westchester after being busted by a witness driving with a blood alcohol content double the legal limit, police said.

An officer from the Scarsdale Police Department was dispatched to Supply Field at approximately 6:37 a.m. on Friday, July 12, where there was a report of a man and woman inside a vehicle acting erratically.

Upon arrival, the officer said that he found Stamford resident Cristian Castillo and his female passenger in the car outside the field with her front door open.

When the officer made contact with Castillo, he responded that he was drunk and parked so that he did not have to drive. He also noted that his driver’s license had been suspended. The officer noted that while speaking with Castillo, there was a strong odor of alcohol coming off his breath.

According to police, the officer spoke with the witness, who said that he saw Castillo operating the vehicle, and saw him drive into the parking lot, exit the vehicle and then asking for assistance.

Castillo proceeded to submit to an alto-sensor pre-screening test, which indicated that Castillo had alcohol in his system, and he was arrested. At Scarsdale Police Headquarters, Castillo submitted to a breathalyzer, which showed his blood alcohol content to be .16 percent.

Further investigation found that Castillo had a warrant out for his arrest in West Virginia for marijuana possession, though there was no extradition tied to the charge.

Castillo was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol content greater than .08 percent, criminal possession of a controlled substance and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, all misdemeanors. Castillo was also cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver.

Following his arraignment, Castillo was released on $200 cash bail and is scheduled to appear in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday, July 17, to respond to the charges.
