PELHAM, N.Y. Pelhams finest were honored Monday night in front of their families, friends and village officials for meritorious acts in 2010 and 2011, and two officers were recognized for their anniversaries as well.
Lt. Rocco DelGrosso, marked 35 years, and Sgt. Anthony Borsella, with 25 years, were awarded certificates for their decades of service to the village by Mayor Ed Hotchkiss.
Hotchkiss called the event one of the special times of the year and commended the police department for its hard work, which he said was really illustrative during a recent robbery spree.
Im quite happy that Pelham was able to be the community that caught this individual, Hotchkiss said before Pelham Police Chief Joe Benefico thanked Sgt. Christopher Casucci and Detectives Rick Deere and John Hynes for their work in the case.
The sergeants, detectives and officers honored are responsible for saving lives and stopping crimes throughout the past two years. The events stood out as the best and worthy of special recognition even though all Pelham officers perform their duty in an exemplary fashion during the year, Benefico said.
In some of the honored events, Deere prevented a woman from jumping off the Lincoln Avenue Bridge, Sgt. Jason Pallett and Officer Eugene Sisto helped save a woman who had stopped breathing and Detective John Hynes solved a burglary.
By performing their job day in and day out to the best of their ability, they continue to make my job that much easier, Benefico said, referring to his officers.
A very important reason why Pelham remains a safe community in which to live is because of the job that you do, he said.
The men and women who received awards were recommended by a group of their peers and approved by the police administration and the village Board of Trustees.
