Marjorie McDermott, 98, Longtime Pelham Resident

PELHAM, N.Y. – Marjorie C. McDermott, a longtime resident of Pelham, died Jan. 26 at Willow Towers in New Rochelle. She was 98.

McDermott was born Jan. 5, 1915, to James and Margaret Carlisle McDermott. She was employed at Texaco's corporate headquarters in Manhattan and Westchester County for many years.

She maintained a season subscription to the Metropolitan Opera and enjoyed traveling abroad. An active gardener, she was a member of the New York Botanical Garden, Orchid Society, Westchester Rose Society and other horticultural organizations.

She was predeceased by a brother, Walter.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catharine's Church in Pelham. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne. Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Pelham Funeral Home.
