PELHAM, N.Y. -- Emily Meyer Zook, formerly of Pelham, died Feb. 19 at home in Talent, Ore. She was 71.
She was born Feb. 20, 1944, in Washington, D.C. She attended the National Cathedral School. Zook graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1962 and Lake Erie College in Ohio in 1966.
She married Kent Zook, and they joined the Peace Corps. They were stationed in Venezuela, where Emily worked to create more efficient infrastructure in local villages. Upon returning to the States, the Zooks moved to Pelham, where she worked as a Spanish-speaking adult education counselor for New York state and ran for public office.
Later the couple moved to Witherbee Avenue in Pelham Manor, where Zook was elected to the school board and raised her two sons. Following her divorce, Zook relocated to New York City, working in production for Scholastic Inc.
She moved across the country to Ashland, Ore., in 2000 where she met retired Judge Roger Kosel, whom she married in 2014.
She worked as an agent for Patricia Sprague real estate. Zook enjoyed her family, friends, and nature, hiking, snowshoeing, biking across Ireland or Cuba, and relaxing at the beach.
Zook is survived by her husband; and sons, Jason Zook, of Mill Valley, Calif., and Hunter Zook, of Portland, Ore.; her grandchildren, Logan, Sawyer and Emily Rose; daughters-in-law, Mindy Fox-Zook, Kerry Zook, and Rosemary Zook; stepdaughters, Arianna and Melea; her sisters, Julie Quinn and Lillian Hoik; and seven nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is set for Saturday, April 2, at 2 p.m. at Talent Town Hall, 206 E. Main St., Talent, Ore.
