Teens Have Their Say At The Pelham Library

The board is a joint venture between the library and students at Pelham High School that is hoping to build on last year's attempts at teen programming, according to a press release from the library. 

The idea began last year after the Junior League of Pelham's provisional class chose as its class project to create more programs for teens at the library. 

“The idea was to build a partnership between librarians and our Pelham youth,” said league member Janna Johnsen in the release. 

Lilly Hecker, librarian for children’s services, said teens "don't have much of a presence" at the library and one of her wishes was to have more teens at the library, according to the release.

The board had its kickoff in early February, which featured art work and music from the Pelham teen community.

"The event demonstrated why teens are the best choice to plan their own entertainment," the release said. 

The first event of the coming school year will be a screening of the movie “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” a coming-of-age tale based on a 1999 book. The screening is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30.
