Pelham Woman, Others Enjoy Sunny Memorial Day

Despite early morning thunder and overcast skies, the sun broke free of the clouds to bathe the people of Pelham in warm sunlight for the Memorial Day Parade on Monday.

Michelle Gesky, one of hundreds of attendees at the parade, said she planned to come to the parade regardless of Mother Nature.

"We were coming rain or shine," Gesky said. "And we were happy to hear the thunder early in the morning."

Gesky has attended the parade consistently since 1993. She came to this year's ceremony with Alice Gesky, as well as children Alexander and Caroline.

The feeling of community has compelled Gesky to return for the better part of almost two decades.

"It's a great way to see everyone you know," Gesky said.

The National Weather Service forecasted a 20 percent chance of rain for Memorial Day, specifically after 3 p.m., but predicted mostly sunny skies with a high of 87 degrees. No rain fell in Pelham during the parade.
