PELHAM, N.Y. Hurricane Irene ripped through Westchester County, causing floods, downed trees and highway closures. Pelham was not immune to the effects of the storm and several readers of The Daily Pelham took the time to share their hurricane experiences.

Reader Lis Baumann said Friday on The Daily Pelham Facebook page that she closed her attic windows in anticipation of the hurricane and left town for the weekend. She also asked for help from town officials for those in her area.
"I would ask that my neighbors at Sixth Avenue (and) Seventh Avenue and Sixth Street (and) Seventh Street get special attention from town officials over the next few days, though," Baumann wrote. "The barricades stand at the ready, but the flooding issues over here should have been taken care of years ago."
Some readers also shared how many cases of water they bought before the hurricane. Denise Fondonella said she bought three cases for the two people in her home. Geoffrey Hawkins said he bought three, as well.
But Jackie Miller took a different approach.
"Honestly I am not prepared at all so if we get hit bad I am in for it," Miller wrote. "I guess I might hit a shelter if need be."
