Pelham Pizzeria Adjusts to Mother Nature's Will

Rain has drenched Pelham for the better part of the past week. As a result, shops and cafés on Fifth Avenue have had to adjust to the decrease in customers who have stayed indoors to avoid the downpour.

John Ruffolo, one of the managers of Pelham Pizzeria and Ristorante, said the workers performed some housekeeping tasks such as cleaning to occupy themselves.

"We just close a little earlier. Maybe we don't prepare as much (food) once dinner time comes," Ruffolo said.

Ordinarily, the restaurant is open until midnight Monday through Saturday and until 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, but the constant barrage of rain and gloomy skies forced the managers to close up shop a bit earlier last week.

Ruffolo estimated that the inclement weather caused about a 10 percent drop-off in total customers, but added that some customers who normally dine in the restaurant ordered take-out from them instead.

Pino Mancini, another manager of the pizzeria, offered a sarcastic solution to the problem of fewer customers.

"We're firing people," Mancini joked.
