The National Weather Service predicts partly sunny skies and a high temperature of 86 degrees for Pelham's annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday.
Rain or shine, Pelham will have the honor for the ninth straight year of hosting members of the United States Navy and Marine Corps who are visiting the New York area as part of Fleet Week.
The parade will begin at 11 a.m. in front of the Manor Club on Esplanade. The procession will turn right onto Wolfs Lane and continue down Fifth Avenue until it stops in front of Pelham's Town Hall, said Harry Engstrom, vice commander of the American Legion Post 50.
At that point, Commander Scott McGuirk will begin a ceremony in front of the hall. American Legion Post 50 is responsible for organizing this year's parade. The parade will honor fallen soldiers with a reading of the deceased and a wreath laying at the Veterans Memorial.
Unlike past years, the American Legion did not select one single grand marshal to honor. Instead, that portion of the ceremony will acknowledge all the armed forces currently serving overseas.
State Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, Mayor Ed Hotchkiss, Town Supervisor Joseph Solimine and other government officials will be in attendance.
A reception for residents of the town of Pelham will follow the ceremony in the gazebo outside the town hall at approximately 1 p.m., Engstrom said.
