Pelham Man Happy to Open Store on Thanksgiving

PELHAM, N.Y. – Pelham Plaza Gourmet on Fifth Avenue will be one of the few stores open in town on Thanksgiving, but manager Abdo Sherhan does not mind.

Sherhan said his store is open every holiday. On Thursday’s day of thanks, people might be grateful that he is keeping his doors open. Those who forgot to buy a can of cranberry sauce or need an extra box of stuffing do not have to worry.

“If people are missing something, they can come in a buy it,” Sherhan said. “We like to make everybody happy.”

Sherhan will only come in to work for a few hours on Thursday. His employees will come in for half-day shifts so they can spend time with their families on Thanksgiving. The store will open at 6 a.m. and will likely only remain open until 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.

The manager said the flow of business will dictate how late the store remains open.

Sherhan also said the store will offer Thanksgiving foods, including turkey and stuffing, at its hot buffet. Those foods were also available at the store on Wednesday.
