PELHAM, N.Y. Pelham residents will be looking for President Barack Obama to address unemployment and other important issues when the president delivers his third State of the Union Tuesday night.
Steve Issacs said the biggest issue facing America is its productivity and jobs.
As for what he would like to see the president speak about, the Pelham resident was quick to answer.
Id like to see him speak about the state of the economy, jobs, fairness and income equality, said Issacs.
Rita Martell, on the other hand, does not believe Obama should be criticized for the high unemployment rate and stagnant economy because she thinks he inherited those problems from President George Bush.
Id like him to address the fact that he didnt get us into this hole and hes working to get us out, but it really wasnt his fault, she stated. Hes being blamed for the whole thing.
While the unemployment rate has dipped to 8.5 percent, Juanita Bethea expects Obama to address that concern in his speech.
Even though Im retired, Id still like to see him talk about employment, she stated. I think that would help the county and maybe even the world. We supposedly are so important, but I would really like to see him address employment for people.
That is not the only problem facing America, according to Bethea. She is hoping that poverty across America is cleaned up as well.
I understand that there are people in America who are hungry and thats a little frightening to me, said the DeCiccos Food Market shopper.
