Pelham Florist Decorates Homes for The Holidays

PELHAM, N.Y. – Danny Spillos of Westchester Floral Decorators will be quite busy in the coming weeks. But he will focus on homes and interior decorations while others will be selling wreaths.

Spillos said that his business does not typically deal with retail so he will not display wreaths for sale inside and outside of his store. Instead, he will travel to about four or five homes and decorate them with garland and wintergreens. He will adorn their fireplace mantles and dining room tables with Christmas accents.

Spillos has been decorating the homes of the same handful of customers for five years but he originally refused to do it for a few years. But when one woman kept coming into his store and persisting, he decided to give it a try. And when she became a repeat customer each holiday season and others followed, a tradition, albeit it a small one, ensued.

Spillos said the decorations are local to Pelham and Pelham Manor and that he usually prepares the homes two weeks before Christmas. “A lot of the stuff dries up, so they want it fresh for Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner,” Spillos said. The owner of the flower shop said the interior decorations could cost anywhere from $2,000 to $6,000.

Spillos also decorates catering facilities and the nearby Villaggio Ristorante and Pizzeria on Wolfs Lane. Frank Presta, owner of Villaggio, said Westchester Floral Decorators puts his mind at ease.

“They do excellent work,” Presta said. “They give me the whole nine yards. I don’t have to do anything.”
