Pelham 9/11 Memorial Honors Victims of Attacks

PELHAM, N.Y. – In 2007, the Town of Pelham dedicated a memorial to the victims of the Sept. 11 attacks who lived in the area. The town will hold a special ceremony for the 10th anniversary of the tragedy on Sept. 10 at 8:30 a.m.

The memorial on Harmon Avenue across from the Town House Park features a granite wall with a quotation from Charles de Gaulle chosen by the families of the victims. Ten benches inscribed with the names of the victims complete an oval around the edge of the memorial.

One Dogwood tree sits in the oval, but nine trees in total can be found at the memorial. Each tree represents one of the victims, but one tree has two large trunks to memorialize the two victims who were brothers.

Grants and donations paid for the memorial, according to Ruthann DeSimone, assistant to the town supervisor.

Those honored at the memorial are:

- Michael Boccardi

- Montgomery Hord

- Thomas Hynes

- Lt. Joseph Leavey, FDNY

- Robert McLaughlin

- Amy O'Doherty

- Daniel Shea

- Joseph Shea

- Robert Scandole

- Michael Tamuccio
