Metro-North Increasing Trains Friday

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Metro-North will be operating 19 early “getaway trains” for those people looking to leave work early Friday to enjoy their long Memorial Day weekend, said spokesperson Marjorie Anders

Anders called Friday “a nutty day” because everybody is trying “to get out of here early.”

“It’s not the busiest day because some people don’t even come in but those people who did come in in the morning at their regular time, the vast majority leave early, so we've made accommodation on that,” Anders said.

Starting at noon, “there will be extra early afternoon departures from Grand Central Terminal” on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines, said Anders in a press release announcing the schedule changes. She added the Hudson Line will have four outbound trains, “all super expresses to Poughkeepsie with Beacon the first stop, departing at 1:46 p.m., 2:40 p.m., 3:25 p.m., and 4:05 p.m.”

There will be “four extra outbound Harlem Line express trains” as well. They consist of “two expresses to Southeast, first stop Chappaqua departing at 1:45 p.m. and 4:08 p.m.; a 3:14 p.m. super-express to White Plains and North White Plains only; a 3:37 p.m. express to Southeast that makes White Plains its first stop, then Goldens Bridge and all remaining stops to Southeast,” Anders said.

The New Haven Line will have “11 extra outbound trains in addition to the regular Friday-only 3:04 p.m. express,” Anders said. “There is also a 1:30 p.m. departure from Stamford that goes through to Old Saybrook on the Shore Line East.”

Anders pointed out there is the normal weekend schedule is in effect for Saturday and Sunday, plus “a number of trains during the PM Peak period will not operate Friday or will be combined.” Memorial Day will operate on a Sunday schedule “with extra cars on inbound trains during the late afternoon and evening,” Anders said.

“In addition, three extra inbound trains will operate between New Haven and New York, making select express stop,” Anders said. “These trains depart New Haven at 5:47 p.m., 6:47 p.m. and 7:47 p.m. Also, two extra express trains to New Haven, making select express stops will depart Grand Central at 3:55 p.m. and 7:57 p.m.”

Anders urged those taking the train to look at the MTA website to “check the boards, go on and train time, and decide what their getaway train is going to be.”
