Man Driving With Cell Phone Busted for Drugs

PELHAM MANOR, N.Y. – Pelham Manor police arrested a man for heroin possession Friday night after they caught him using a cell phone while driving.

Police charged Michael Vanacore, 33, of 10 Forest Rd. in Pelham Manor, with criminal possession of a controlled substance and driving while using a mobile phone.

Vanacore drove northbound on Pelhamdale Avenue past a police car driving in the opposite direction. Police noticed Vanacore holding a phone to his ear.

The officer turned around and stopped Vanacore in front of 4674 Boston Post Rd. Officers ran a license check, which showed that he had a warrant out of White Plains. Police confirmed the warrant and placed Vanacore under arrest.

Police searched his black 2011 Nissan Sentra and found two glassine envelopes that contained a brown, powdery substance. Officers also found several empty envelopes.

Police read Vanacore his Miranda rights and he said he understood. He then told police that the substance in the envelopes was heroin and he was going to throw away the empty envelopes because they were used.

Pelham Manor police entered the envelopes into evidence and Vanacore was released on $500 bail. Police turned him over to White Plains to answer for his warrant. He is due in Pelham Town Court Thursday at 6 p.m.
