Highest Paid Village of Pelham Employees

PELHAM, N.Y. – The village of Pelham employs various workers from administrative officials to police officers and firefighters. The salaries of those employees can be accessed by citizens because they are public record.

Village administrator Robert Yamuder provided The Daily Pelham with the salaries of the highest paid and highest level officials in the village. Police officers and firefighters make up the majority of the list.

Police Chief Joseph Benefico earns $148,582 per year, while Lt. Rocco DelGrosso makes $133,038. Yamuder ranks third with a salary of $128,775.

Detectives in the Pelham Police Department earn $100,786 per year. The Department of Public Works foreman Michael Shriman makes $91,945. Building inspector Leonard Russo makes slightly less at $88,140.

Lieutenants in the Pelham Fire Department earn $82,821 per year. Fire chief William Stone only earns $55,000 because he works in a part-time capacity.

Yamuder said that factors such as longevity are considered with regard to salary for staff members including police officers and firefighters.

"The staff is part of unions, which has longevity bonuses," Yamuder said. "They have union contracts."

Lt. Rocco DelGrosso of the Pelham Police Department, for example, has served on the force for more than 25 years.

Yamuder said that managers such as he have separate contracts and thus do not deal with longevity bonuses.
