Construction Continues on Fifth Avenue in Pelham

PELHAM, N.Y. – Construction continued Monday on a water main under the street at the corner of Fifth Avenue and First Street. Machinery and workers dug into the street to continue a project that began in the beginning of August.

The work blocked the right lane on Fifth Avenue headed southbound toward Wolfs Lane. Orange cones surrounded the worksite and reached the double yellow line in the middle of the street. A Pelham police officer stood at the site.

Traffic flowed normally in the early afternoon around the construction. Workers placed a meter on the water main last week, but the work occurred on the opposite side of the street at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Harmon Avenue.

Robert Thiele, construction inspector from Buck, Seifert & Jost, Inc., said Wednesday that workers should wrap up the job this week.
