Pelham Residents Can Finally Bask in the Sunshine

After more than a week of torrential rain and gray skies, the people of Pelham have had three straight days of sunshine and a temperature increase – and the forecast continues to look just as bright.

Yvonne Marr and Kathie O'Callaghan took some time Thursday afternoon to enjoy the weather with an outdoor lunch at M.A.D. Café on Wolfs Lane. O'Callaghan missed most of the gloomy weather last week because she was in Mexico.

But Marr, a visitor from London, caught the brunt of Mother Nature's force and found a way to deal with it.

"I had to shop all day," Marr said. "It was dreadful."

O'Callaghan has lived in Pelham for 27 years. She has used the three days of sunshine to tend to the vegetables in her garden.

Not everyone is basking in the sunshine. Arshia Panicker, a Pelham resident who had been at Binghamton University, said she had been walking and playing in the rain at school and lamented that she missed the rain in Pelham.

She added, though, that she is excited for the impending "beach weather" that seems to have at least partially arrived.

Marr promised, with a joking guarantee, that the sunshine is here to stay and offered her reason it rained so much last week.

"It's because my daughter brought an umbrella," Marr said. "It won't rain for the rest of the summer. Guaranteed."

The high temperature in Pelham Thursday was 82 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The 5-day forecast for Pelham lays out just as nicely, with Friday mostly sunny and a high around 85, Saturday and Sunday both partly sunny and 79 degrees, Memorial Day Monday should be mostly sunny with a high of 85 and Tuesday almost identical with a high of 84.
