PELHAM, N.Y. -- The Picture House will show a special screening of the new sports documentary "The Search for Freedom" on Thursday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Stars in the documentary include skateboarding icon Tony Hawk and world champion surfer Kelly Slater.

"The Search for Freedom" is the story of a cultural revolution fueled by the human desire to live in the moment and do what makes you feel the most alive.

The film explores how the electrifying new world of extreme sports came about through pure energy and imagination and the infinite possibilities of self-expression available to anyone willing to drop in.

“When I first conceived the movie, it was to tell a story about a cultural phenomenon. The action sports movement came from humble beginnings and has become a way of life for so many. This is a real story of the action sports revolution and some of the people who fueled it with verve, imagination and courage," said writer and director Jon Long (IMAX "Extreme).

In addition to Hawk and Slater, "The Search for Freedom" also features motorcyclist Robbie Maddison, climber Ron Kauk, windsurfing world champion Robby Naish, world champion paddle boarder Kai Lenny, world champion long boarder Kelia Moniz, street skater Nyjah Huston, and X Games gold medalist Tom Schaar.

Surf film producers Bruce Brown and Warren Miller, Quiksilver founder Bob McKnight, and Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard are also in the film.

The film premiered at a number of film festivals throughout the country and was the Official Selection of the Maui Film Festival and the Whistler Film Festival, where it had its Canadian premiere. The film opened to select markets in June.

Tickets to the special screening of The Search for Freedom are $12/general admission, $6/members, $10/students and seniors and are available at or at the box office, 175 Wolfs Lane, Pelham, N.Y. 10803.
