BRONXVILLE, N.Y. -- Last month, more than 300 high school students and parents visited Eastchester High School for its second healthcare careers interactive fair, sponsored by NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital.

Students from both public and private high schools throughout Westchester were invited to gain hands-on experience and speak directly with doctors and other health professionals about an array of career options.

"This is a great opportunity to educate Westchester County's young people and inspire the future healthcare and medical leaders of tomorrow," said Michael Fosina, president of NYP Lawrence.

Students learned how to intubate and suture mannequins, examine the chambers of a pig's heart, scope a knee with the guidance of an orthopedic surgeon and use laparoscopic instruments as if they were performing an actual surgery.

Participants included NYP Lawrence doctors, ColumbiaDoctors, NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Westchester, physical therapists, pharmacists, dietitians, physician's assistants, first responders, medical students and other allied health professionals.
