New Update: Train Slams Into Truck On Track In Hudson Valley The driver of a tractor-trailer that was stuck on railroad tracks in the Hudson Valley was rescued by a police sergeant before the vehicle was hit by a train. The incident took place in Rockland County around 9:20 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 23 near the intersection of Route 9W and New Main Street in the town of Haverstraw, said Capt. John Gould of the Haverstraw Police. Gould said the tractor-trailer had bottomed out on the tracks and a passerby notified Sgt. Christian Mendez who happened to be patrolling in the area. This Hudson Valley County Capping Sales Tax On Gasoline Some financial relief is coming to Hudson Valley motorists as elected officials in one county announce a cap on gasoline sales tax in the region. Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Legislature Chairman Jay Hood Jr. announced that local sales tax on gasoline will be capped at $2 per gallon amid the record spike in prices at the pump. According to officials, the change means sales tax will only be applied to the first $2 of a gasoline purchase, as opposed to the full gas price. Paroled Killer Of 16-Year-Old Ordered To Stay Away From Rockland As Pataki Appeals To Cuomo One of the two men convicted of killing Pearl River 16-year-old Paula Bohovesky in 1980 who was granted parole has been ordered to stay clear of Rockland County and has been banished to upstate New York. The New York Attorney General’s Office told a judge that Richard LaBarbera has been reassigned to a parole officer in Buffalo when he is released from prison this week. LaBarbera was also ordered to steer clear of Bohovesky’s mother, Lois. Initially, LaBarbera was to be assigned to a parole officer in Peekskill.
