State Police on Long Island were initially called at around 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, with reports of an erratic driver in Hempstead, heading southbound on the Wantagh State Parkway near Hempstead Turnpike. Lifelong Bronxville resident Gage D. Bellitto, 19, was pronounced dead on Dec. 22 after an opioid overdose, according to a statement released by Columbia University, where he went to school, last week. A 2016 graduate of Bronxville High School and sophomore at Columbia, Bellitto was remembered as a prominent member of the high school’s varsity baseball team.
