Fitbit will pay more than $12 million for failing to promptly report that its Ionic smartwatches posed serious burn risks, officials said. Fitbit LLC, which is now owned by Google, has been fined $12.25 million to settle claims by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the federal agency said in a news release on Thursday, Jan. 23. More than a million Google Fitbits are being recalled due to a burn hazard, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. After conquering the Internet, Google is set to take over brick-and-mortar retail sales with its first-ever physical store, and it will be in New York.
