'Most Difficult News': Peekskill Police Department Mourns Death Of Officer A police department in Northern Westchester is mourning the sudden loss of one of its own.  Gregory Jones, an officer with the Peekskill Police Department, died on Thursday, Nov. 24 at the age of 48, according to his obituary.  A native of Orange County, Jones was born and raised in Middletown and earned his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill before beginning his law enforcement career with the Orange County Sheriff's Office, his obituary said.  Jones later transferred to the Peekskill Police Department, where he stayed for…

Covid-19: Employee Tests Positive At Parish In Peekskill A parish employee at a Northern Westchester church is among the latest to test positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19), prompting two priests to enter quarantine as they await results of their own tests. The Archdiocese of New York announced this week that an employee at the Church of the Assumption in Peekskill has tested positive and is currently undergoing treatment. In response, Rev. Esteban Sanchez and Rev. Carlos Limongi, who had close contact with the employee, have entered into a self-quarantine until it can be determined whether or not they have also contracted COVID-19. Former Van Cortlandtville School Teacher Helen DeMaria Millicker Dies Helen DeMaria Millicker of Cortlandt Manor died on Oct. 5.  She was born in Peekskill on July 26, 1934 to Michael and Helen Pisani DeMaria and graduated from the Assumption School and Peekskill High School, Class of 1952, as well as SUC in New Paltz in 1956. She taught in Van Cortlandtville School. Helen married John Millicker on April 17, 1960 in the Church of the Assumption. They had four sons: John (Shannon), Glenn, Michael (Karen) and Paul (Martha).
