Tsunami Alerts Issued For US West Coast, Hawaii, Japan After 8.8 Quake Near Russia A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula triggered widespread tsunami alerts across the Pacific, including the entire U.S. West Coast, late Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake struck at 7:24 p.m. local time about 315 miles southwest of Bering Island, at a depth of 46 miles, and is among the top six strongest ever recorded, USGS officials confirmed. Fire Leaves Westchester Restaurant 'Significantly Damaged,' Causes Closure On Busy Road A blaze at a Westchester restaurant damaged the building and left part of a busy road closed to traffic.  The fire happened on Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, when a blaze broke out at a building housing the Tarry Tavern at 27 Main St. in Tarrytown, according to village officials.  The blaze was eventually put out with no injuries thanks to the efforts of the Tarrytown Fire Department and several other agencies from the area, officials said. According to the village, the entire building suffered "significant damage" but the blaze was prevented from spreading to surrounding structures.&…

Truck Backs Into House In Westchester A house had to be stabilized after a truck slammed into it in Westchester.  The crash happened on Monday, Sept. 16 around 12:30 p.m., when a truck backed into a house in Ardsley, according to the Hartsdale Fire Department.  Soon after the collision, crews from the Hartsdale, Greenville, and Fairview Fire Departments responded to the residence to shore the building before removing the truck.  Once several struts were placed in the damaged home, the truck was removed. More permanent wooden shores were then built to replace the struts, firefighters said.  No injuries were…

Driver Hospitalized After Crashing Into Building At Marina In Croton-On-Hudson A building at a Northern Westchester marina had to be stabilized after a vehicle crashed into it.  The crash happened on Sunday, Aug. 25 around 10:30 a.m., when a vehicle struck the Hudson House building at the Half Moon Bay Marina in the village of Croton-on-Hudson, according to the village's fire department.  The driver had experienced a medical emergency just before the crash and was able to get out of his vehicle on his own, firefighters said.  Soon after the collision, fire crews rushed to the marina and stabilized the car while also shutting down the building's electri…
